Understanding &
Healing Mother Hunger

Mother Hunger is a concept that describes the deep emotional longing that arises when a child's basic needs for nurturing, protection, and guidance are unmet by their mother or primary caregiver. This unmet need can leave a lasting imprint on an individual's emotional and relational well-being, often manifesting in adulthood as challenges in forming secure attachments, low self-worth, or persistent feelings of emptiness.

Three Core Components of Mother Hunger:

Healing from Mother Hunger

Healing from Mother Hunger involves recognizing these unmet needs and working through the pain they cause. Therapy can provide a safe space to explore these feelings, build self-compassion, and learn to nurture, protect, and guide oneself. Through this process, individuals can break free from the cycle of unmet needs and form healthier, more fulfilling relationships. If you resonate with the concept of Mother Hunger and are seeking support, you’re not alone. Healing is possible, and it starts with understanding your needs and reclaiming your emotional well-being.

This concept was created by Kelly McDaniel in her 2021 book, "Mother Hunger"
